Max Gruber is one of a kind: singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, writer and podcaster (“Mit Verachtung” together with Casper). As Drangsal, he stands for driving bass, reverberating guitars, brilliant effects, gaudy synths, covered with an unmistakable vintage touch. You can also hear on his current album “Exit Strategy” that someone here is a master of their trade. His inspiration is clearly the 80s, which he not only draws on, but which he blithely applies to the here and now. But the Palatinate-born musician and his band don’t just whip out top-class New Wave, postpunk and indie pop in the style of The Smiths and Depeche Mode. Here, the corresponding staging is also mastered to perfection. The hymns of praise from music critics speak volumes. And so does the industry: Drangsal can regularly be heard and experienced in features. Leslie Clio, Blond, Leoniden, Casper … the list is long. It’s great that we can experience him together on stage with us in July!
