Daada is a German-Colombian artist raised in East Africa. Now based in Berlin, she makes multilingual, transcultural indie music. Daada first started songwriting at age seven and quickly took refuge in it as the glue to piece together and embrace her “third-culture-kid” identity. “Daada” derives from Swahili word for “sister”. The pseudonym pays homage to the multiculturality that hugs her music both lyrically and sonically but also to sister- and womanhood: cornerstones of her message. Expect delicate threads of pop and indie fused with soulful singer-songwriting in English, Spanish, German and Swahili – all underpinned by danceable, catchy beats. She takes the stage with producer and good friend Maono.
In 2022, Daada unveiled her first EP via Motor Music. It is a Spanglish collection of songs written over vastly different times and spaces, from Bogotá to Berlin and culminating in a coming-of-age narration through first experiences of falling in love, desire and toxic relationships. Her music has landed her Spotify editorial play listings, earned airplay on rbb Fritz, RadioEins, Global’s Smooth Chill as well as a nomination by Amazon Music Germany Breakthrough & All Hands On Deck as a top 6 newcomer. For Daada, this is but the beginning – with lots more eclectic and borderless music on the way in 2023.
