Am 22. Mai werden wieder die Tweed-Anzüge über die Rückenprotektoren gezogen. Beim Distinguished GeOn May 22, the tweed suits will once again be pulled over the back protectors. The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride is a classic dress-up event that aims to dispel two preconceptions about motorcyclists: that they are oil-smeared and don’t give a damn about their health. In contrast, the ride, which was initiated in Australia in 2012, promotes more awareness of prostate cancer and mental illness in men internationally. Over $31 million has been raised to date via donations for medical research.
For this charitable cause, DGR has been cooperating with the Australian Movember Foundation since 2019. The organization with the curved mustache as its signet distributes the donations to health programs for which it vouches. This year, the money is going to prostate cancer research, prostate cancer health services and suicide prevention services.
Of course, such a Sunday cleaning ride has another effect. It’s fun as hell. Initially, participation was limited to motorcycles that proudly displayed their ’60s roots: Cafe Racers, Scramblers, Tin Scooters … Eventually the idea was sparked by a photo of Mad Man Don Draper on a Matchless. But even on a racing dolly with four-color fairing, it’s hard to come across dapper in Paul Smith’s orange suit. And of course, the DGR is open to all genders: m/f/d. For 2022, 26 cities in Germany alone have registered a Ride. Gentlemen, let’s have some good mindful fun!
