HOT TIP: THE LISBON MOTORCYCLE FILM FEST 2022

Nothing conveys action and adventure as directly as moving images. The motorcycle world is crying out to be documented and staged on film. The Lisbon Motorcycle Film Fest/LxMFF brings together the most beautiful cinematic blossoms around motorcycle culture and has been presenting them since 2016 at its festival in Lisbon – and at selected events such as Pure&Crafted.

Photographer Manuel Portugal had been enthusiastic about the new custom motorcycle scene from the very beginning, accompanying it with the throttle in one hand and the camera in the other. As someone who thinks in pictures, it annoyed him that the genre of motorcycle film had gone underground since the ’70s. Before “Easy Rider,” there was a hail of beatings and burnouts on the big screen, after which only Mickey Rourke swung into the saddle again. Manuel Portugal set out with like-minded people in search of the current gems of the genre and founded the LxMFF.

In 2022, the sixth edition will be held again at Cinema São Jorge from May 26 to 29. When you park in front of the 50s showcase building, your cafe racer blood immediately gets boiling. The setting could not be more stylish. Jet helmet off to enjoy the film.

The festival only shows films that are no more than five years old. A narrow window of opportunity – but the program makers can hardly keep themselves busy with applications. Last year, the travel documentaries “Somewhere else together” and “Pozzis, Samarcanda” cleaned up with the audience.
The film screenings are complemented by talks with the directors and photo and motorcycle exhibitions – and a nightly ride-out, where you can take the myth from the screen straight to the white streets of Lisbon.

Don’t worry: if you can’t make it to Lisbon to watch films, just come to us on 1 July, to Pure&Crafted! Like last year, the LxMFF is once again our guest and will present the essence of the competition films from Lisbon for a whole day. We are looking forward to it!
